Disney’s Little Mermaid Star Reveals Her Reaction To First Footage

Halle Bailey talks about how she felt when she saw the first footage of her role as Ariel in Disney’s upcoming live-action version of The Little Mermaid. The Little Mermaid, which came out in 1989 and was loosely based on a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, is the latest well-known animated Disney movie to get a live-action makeover. It follows in the footsteps of Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Dumbo, and Mulan. Rob Marshall, who directed Mary Poppins Returns, is in charge of the live-action Little Mermaid. Lin-Manuel Miranda, who wrote the lyrics for Enchanted, wrote new songs for the movie.

Halle Bailey from the TV show Grown-ish plays Ariel in the live-action version of The Little Mermaid. Jonah Hauer-King plays Eric, Melissa McCarthy plays Ursula, Javier Bardem plays King Triton, and Jude Akuwudike plays Grimsby. Daveed Diggs from the show Hamilton voices Sebastian, Jacob Tremblay from the show Luca voices Flounder, and Awkwafina from the show Shang-Chi voices Scuttle. Like in other versions of the popular fairy tale, the young mermaid princess in the live-action Little Mermaid movie will want to live on land with the handsome human prince, Eric.
Bailey talked to ET on the red carpet of the BET Awards about how she felt when she saw the first footage from The Little Mermaid. The actress who played Ariel says that the clips she saw of her performance made her cry because she couldn’t believe it. She said that the whole thing was “very overwhelming,” and that just talking about it makes her “really emotional.” Here’s what Bailey said:
It’s easy to see why Bailey’s reaction to her performance in The Little Mermaid made her so emotional. The 22-year-old actress has been busy in show business since she was young. She is probably best known for being one half of the music duo Chloe x Halle with her sister, Chloe Bailey. Since 2018, the two of them have been nominated for five Grammy Awards. The sisters then went on to be on the ABC sitcom Grown-ish. Now, for her first live-action role in a feature film, Halle Bailey will play one of the most famous Disney princesses. This is both a reward for her hard work so far and a sign that her acting career will go well.

The live-action version of The Little Mermaid has finished filming and is now in post-production. It will come out on May 26, 2023. Bailey will also be in The Color Purple, a movie that is based on the musical of the same name. Filming is almost done, and the movie will come out on December 20, 2023. For people who haven’t seen her before, both The Color Purple and The Little Mermaid are great ways to get to know the up-and-coming singer and actress Halle Bailey.
