Billionaire and former lawmaker, Ned Nwoko has reacted to the heavy backlash he received online following his comments about Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of Labour Party.

In an interview with the BBC on Tuesday, June 21, the Delta North PDP senatorial candidate said he would prefer to see Mr Obi as minister of economy.

He said, “Peter Obi is a good man and has impressed me. When he came to London he came alone. He’s a capitalist, a big-time player in the business world, and conservative in how he handles things.

“I will like him back in PDP, he will do well as minister of economy, and he will help us turn around Nigeria’s economy.”

Nwoko added that Obi lacks the structure required to win the election.

Among those who criticised Nwoko over his statement was the founder of Revival Assembly Ministries International aka The New Anointing, Apostle Anselm Madubuko.

Reacting on Instagram, the cleric made reference to Nwoko’s penchant for younger lovers.

Nwoko, however, took to Instagram on Wednesday, June 22 to say that he was misunderstood.

“Some people are yet to understand the structure of governance. Corruption doesn’t start and end with a president likewise the governance of a country. It involves every segment of the government and the society,” he said.

“A president cannot function effectively without having the support of the National Assembly which means that his/her party must have the majority in the Senate and House of Representatives in order to function effectively.”

The business magnate, who is married to actress Regina Daniels, urged his critics to watch the full video of his interview and less be critical.
